How to Display CE and ISO Technical Documents to RIB Buyers on Your Website

How to Display CE and ISO Technical Documents to RIB Buyers on Your Website

The Display Dilemma

RIB manufacturers face a tension: buyers need evidence of compliance, but technical files contain intellectual property. Publishing full documents risks IP exposure; publishing nothing destroys buyer trust. The solution is a structured three-layer system that delivers proof at the right access level.

Layer 1: Public — Compliance Capability

This layer is visible to every website visitor. It demonstrates that compliance exists without revealing details:

  • CE mark and design category — displayed on every product page
  • Notified body name and number — confirms third-party involvement
  • Applicable ISO standard numbers — ISO 6185, ISO 12217, ISO 12215, ISO 10240 listed by designation
  • Redacted DoC sample — a Declaration of Conformity with model name and notified body visible but serial numbers and proprietary details blurred
  • Compliance summary card — a one-page PDF showing applicable directives, standards, conformity assessment module, and certificate dates

Key principle: Show compliance capability, not every confidential file. Buyers at this stage need to know you are compliant — they do not yet need the full evidence.

Layer 2: Inquiry — Verified Access

When a buyer submits a qualified inquiry, additional documents become available:

  • Full DoC — unredacted, specific to the model under discussion
  • Test report summaries — stability test results, buoyancy test results, and structural test pass certificates
  • Material certification summaries — fabric grade confirmations, alloy grade certificates, laminate schedule compliance letters
  • Notified body certificate — type examination certificate with scope and validity

Access this layer through a contact form with company verification, or via a dealer portal login. Do not place these documents behind a simple email gate — require business identity confirmation.

Layer 3: NDA — Confidential Technical File

Full technical file access requires a signed Non-Disclosure Agreement:

  • Complete technical file — all calculations, test reports, risk assessments, and design drawings
  • CAD files — DXF, DWG, STEP, and IGES format drawings for engineering integration
  • Production process documentation — quality control procedures, material specifications, and manufacturing instructions
  • Proprietary design data — hull form coefficients, tube geometry parameters, and structural analysis models

This layer protects your IP while giving serious buyers the depth they need for project approval.

File Cards, Not Full PDFs

On product pages, display file cards instead of document links. Each card shows:

  • Document type (DoC, test report, material certificate)
  • Issuing authority or standard reference
  • Date of issue or last revision
  • Access level (Public, Inquiry, NDA)
  • Request button linked to the appropriate access gate

This approach tells buyers what exists and how to get it, without cluttering the page with downloads.

ISO Standards: Numbers, Not Content

ISO standards are copyrighted. You cannot reproduce their content. Instead:

  • Quote the standard designation and edition: "ISO 6185-3:2024 — Inflatable boats — Part 3: Boats with rigid hulls (RIBs) up to 24 m"
  • State your compliance: "This model has been assessed against the requirements of ISO 6185-3:2024"
  • Never copy text from the standard onto your website

Implement a three-layer document display system. Visit Paddle Board Overstock CE Compliance for document access gate templates and redacted DoC examples.
